Facing worsening traffic congestion and pollution in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has proposed a first-of-its-kind relocation incentive for IT employees. Under the plan, IT workers who agree to move out of Bengaluru to cities such as Mysuru, Mangaluru and Kalaburagi will be offered an incentive of up to ₹50,000. The state has earmarked ₹445 crore for the scheme, which aims to decongest the capital while promoting balanced regional development. The government believes that shifting a section of the workforce will ease infrastructure pressure on Bengaluru and boost economic activity in other cities. The effectiveness of the scheme, however, will depend on how many employees are willing to relocate.
